What to expect?
- Spring-Fall 2025:
- Hydro-Québec call for tenders issued for solar energy and start of project development
What this means: Project kickoff and definition, technical pre-feasibility.
- Hydro-Québec call for tenders issued for solar energy and start of project development
- October & December 2025:
- Meetings with the MRC des Sources Energy Transition Advisory Committee)
Discussion on the 9 Conditions for Success with the Energy Transition Advisory Committee of the MRC des Sources (Available here).
- Meetings with the MRC des Sources Energy Transition Advisory Committee)
- February 25, 2026:
- Information session
What this means: An open-door opportunity to meet you and present the first draft of this project.
- Information session
- March 31, 2026:
- Deadline for submitting projects to Hydro-Québec
What this means: Submitting a project is the first official step. Several other steps (consultations, studies, permits) will need to be completed before the project is confirmed and implemented.
- Deadline for submitting projects to Hydro-Québec
- Spring 2026:
- First round of public consultations
What this means: Consultations in several municipalities of the MRC des Sources in order to share an initial update of the project and explore how we can guide our future decisions based on local needs and realities.
- First round of public consultations
- Autumn 2026:
- Second public consultation
What this means: This consultation will be tailored based on the feedback received in the first round of consultation.

- Spring 2027:
- Hydro-Québec announces its selection of solar projects
What this means: It is at this point that Hydro-Québec will announce whether the Val-des-Sources Solar Project will go ahead.
- Hydro-Québec announces its selection of solar projects
- If the project is selected: Project finalization
What this means: After a project is approved, several steps must still take place before construction can begin: feasibility studies, consultations, obtaining permits, and more. These steps will be added to the schedule as they are planned. - 2029:
- Possible start of construction
What this means: The construction phase of the project will contribute to job creation.
Like any infrastructure project, construction may cause some temporary changes in the area, including moderate noise at certain times, the intensity of which will depend on the work carried out.
- Possible start of construction
What will the local benefits be?
We are committed to giving back to the communities we work with. The Val-des-Sources solar project will provide diverse and lasting benefits to the community.
- Community partners: sharing of economic benefits with the MRC and W8banaki Nation, and recurring revenues for participating communities.
- Local economy: creation of local jobs (construction, operations).
- Contributing to the energy transition: The project will help meet Québec’s renewable energy needs by generating up to 24 megawatts of electricity dedicated to Québec. That’s the equivalent of almost all the homes in Danville for an entire year!
How Solar Works
The diagram below shows the various components of a solar facility:

- The sun’s rays hit the solar photovoltaic panels and free electrons in the panel’s silicon.
- The freed electrons create an electric field that results in an electrical current and the production of direct current (DC) electricity.
- The electrical inverter converts the DC electricity to alternating current (AC) electricity that, after voltage step up in a transformer, is compatible with the local distribution grid.
- The AC electricity is metered and monitored.
- The electricity is distributed to the local grid for use in homes and offices.
